#31 officiate a new york wedding

I had the honour to officiate my youngest brother Eddie’s wedding over the summer. It’s not something I had on my bucket list, but one of the most special and rewarding experiences I’ve had.

I wrote the full ceremony, weaving in how they see their marriage and how Eddie met Carolyn, my new sister-in-law. On a sweltering day in the city, Eddie and Carolyn tied the knot and fortunately the ceremony went smoothly. There's something about standing in front of the people you love most, trying to articulate what a marriage means, that felt more significant than I expected.

Between rehearsals and celebrations, I captured parts of their wedding week on film. The light in Brooklyn and Manhattan this time of year has a particular quality, softer despite the heat. Early morning coffee runs, the way the brownstones caught the late afternoon sun, small moments between the bigger ones.

My camera became a way to be present while also documenting, being both a participant and an observer. I hope I have managed to capture the feeling of the quiet, in-between moments that matter just as much in a marriage as the ceremony.

All in all, a week in New York that I won't forget easily, for all the right reasons.
